Caring for the planet by reducing our environmental impact
Sustainable development is part of our DNA. Every day, our teams take concrete action to ensure that future generations can benefit from the resources the planet has to offer.
Over the past few years, we have translated our sustainable development ambitions into clear objectives, in order to take care of the planet.
Improve the sustainability of our packaging
To deliver our products, we need packaging, and as one of North America’s leading food and beverage companies, we produce a lot of it. Faced with this reality, we are taking action to reduce the environmental footprint of our packaging.
Our 2025 objectives
- 100% of our primary and secondary packaging components will be recyclable.
- Our priority primary packaging will contain an average of 20% recycled content, while PET packaging will contain an average of 50%.
- All our products will have cardboard straws, and we will have identified alternatives to straws.
Is it recyclable?
You’ve probably already asked yourself this question in front of your recycling bin. That’s why the How2Recycle® program offers clear and simple recycling labels, so that consumers have all the information they need to properly recycle or dispose of their packaging components. By better communicating how to properly prepare and separate packaging components, the initiative enables more material to be recycled. Some products in the U.S. are already displaying the How2Recycle labeling system, and we’re currently evaluating which products will follow suit!
Reducing our greenhouse gas emissions
Given the seriousness of climate change, there is an urgent need to act. We can see the impact of climate change from our raw materials sourcing to the production and distribution of our products. That’s why reducing our carbon footprint is a priority.
Our goal for 2025
- We will set science-based targets for our Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions approved by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi). To find out more, read our article Setting science-based targets to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions.
Preserving water
The quality and availability of drinking water are global issues. The repercussions are significant, from the cultivation of our raw materials to their processing. As well as being an important ingredient in our products, it plays an essential role in the sanitation of our equipment.
Our goal for 2026
- We will reduce the average water withdrawal in our beverage plants to 2 liters of water per liter of product.
Reducing our residual materials
Whether it’s the packaging used to transport our raw materials or the fruit pulp that comes from pressing the fruit, managing our waste, whether organic or inorganic, is a priority.
Our goal for 2030
- To eliminate all our residual materials currently sent to landfill sites.
Back to the land
Our plants in Clarksburg, Kelowna, Rougemont and Wapato, dispose of the organic residues that come from pressing fruit at local livestock farms. This organic waste for us becomes a valuable resource for the breeders, allowing them to vary the feed for their livestock! In Washington and Massachusetts, the residue is distributed to farmers, who use it to make compost.
Where do we stand?
Each year, we report on the progress of our action plans to achieve our objectives. To find out more, visit our Sustainability section and look out for our next Sustainability Report, to be published in May, for an overview of our priorities for 2024.
